Parliament decides.......should there ever been a referendum in the first place?........May's deal is rejected and then what? Another general election?....Unlikely.......another attempt at a deal.......more likely........No deal? Unlikely.......a delay.......most likely.
It seems the only way Britain can get a clear cut Brexit deal is to accept there is no other way other than to leave without any deal, to just leave and that according to all the experts would be a disaster for the country. By now it is becoming apparent that there is no easy or beneficial way of leaving the EU. That is why there has to be another referendum, another vote by the people of Britain however divisive that might be. It is surely better than a no deal.
The French begin to react not only to the rise in fuel prices but against the desperate inequality in their society, the same as it is in Britain and the rest of the world especially in the West. The French are out on the streets demonstrating while here we all wait wondering what is going to happen to this country next, almost the biggest parliamentary crisis ever.
On the other hand BBC's Mrs Wilson just gets stronger in its script and performances. From last week's episode that bordered on becoming almost farcical last night's was tight, tragic and intriguing. Finally I return to this blog after many months away, months that have been very positive. One new novel of mine, 'DAY DOG,' is being proofed read at the moment, and I am working on the second draft of another that was written some years ago with the working title of 'OLD SHADOWS.' My book 'ROAD TO RIBBLEHEAD,' is on KIndle but also is my first novel to be published in paperback. I have been also focusing on becoming fitter, now into power walking, reading a lot, having a wonderful summer holiday in Kefalonia. I have been also updating my website recently and will be now doing so on a regular basis.
Decided to restart my blogs after a prolonged silence. Working hard at the moment on my new novel that is now on its third draft. Unfortunately I can only manage to write for a limited period in the mornings before my brain gets tired and I know to continue would be a waste of creative time. I wonder if anyone else has this problem, now probably one of age as I approach my 70th birthday.
There is an increasing realisation that globalisation does not work for the majority of the world's population, that it only works for the richest sector of any society. This world wide version of capitalism that was once heralded as the answer to all our economic problems has only increased the massive inequalities that exist on our planet. Alternatives have to be sought. We can no longer accept that the system is achieving what it promised.
We have Brexit. We now have Trump. We have politics in Europe shifting to the far right. This is the time for liberals, socialists, progressives of any persuasion to start working as hard as possible against the dangerous trends of the moment.. 2016 will be remembered as the year of lies, when politicians came out with any rubbish they liked to impress the voters. And sadly, tragically it succeeded.. The truth does not work anymore. It is obsolescent. Already Teresa May has gone back on nearly everything she promised only a few weeks ago. In the future people will not believe a word a politician says and then where do we go from there? What is the alternative when we have reached the absolute rock bottom of veracity, dignity and purpose?
