Doris Day represents everything about the movies in the 1950s. People after World War Two, after extermination camps, after the Atomic bomb wanted to escape into a world where problems did not exist, where bad was bad and good was good and Doris Day was very good. She was a natural singer, a natural actor and exuded energy and enjoyment in her craft. She was innocence like people wanted their movies to be. They were just for entertainment. They were what the 1950s were about, big movie stars, Hollywood, a weekly two hour trip into magic land, humour, musicals, westerns, romances, all morally clear cut and easy to digest. Doris Day was one of the best at what she did. Now it seems over sentimental and silly but in the 1950s it was what people expected on the screen and what they got and never was it a disappointment, not once.
